Why a Liquid Exfoliator
In an era where body brushes have made a comeback and body scrubs/polishes offer formulas with several options in fragrance, color, and sometimes even sparkles and glitter, one wonders what exfoliation truly means for the skin.
When LEVETEM was created, the decision to have an exfoliator as its first product was for the reason that - without one, your skin may not be getting the full benefits of the rest of its products.
Build up of dead skin cells is not only uncomfortable but also clogging for the skin. I think of it as skin not being able to breathe. So, to layer it with more lotions and serums, it is in fact just suffocating it more.
The option to go for a chemical exfoliant (ie, Alpha Hydroxy Acids) as opposed to a physical one (ie, scrubs) was simple. It is far more gentle and effective with numerous more benefits for the skin. The term ‘acid’ may scare some, but if you research glycolic and lactic, it is in fact two of the most skin loving ingredients that actually target a variety of skin conditions.
I like to keep my skincare very simple. But, I like it to perform and be effective. The notion of ‘less is more’ is very central to me when it comes to skin {body} care. So, in other words, if I want my 1 moisturizer to do it’s job well, I will be sure to exfoliate frequently and let my skin renew to absorb the goodness of everything else that’s followed.
Next, we knew that chemical exfoliants can also leave the skin feeling excessively dry- so we wanted a formula that would equally hydrate and help restore and repair the skin barrier with essential lipids and humectants. To do this, and to have it be a leave-on (for ease of use), required us to work through many different variations that would allow it to be functional and offer a practical way to apply.
